Coach Bio

Mike Dunn grew up as a multi-sport athlete, developing a passion for athletics and competition at an early age. After spending his younger years participating in various sports, he transitioned into competitive dirt bike racing, where he further developed the discipline, determination, and competitive mindset that continue to influence his approach to coaching.

Mike served in the United States Navy from 2011 to 2015 as an Expeditionary Warfare Second Class Petty Officer. During his military career, he held leadership roles in overseas operations, including missions in Somalia. He also served as a Close Quarters Battle (CQB) instructor, training members of the U.S. Army, Marine Corps, and Navy. This experience taught him the importance of maintaining composure, making sound decisions under pressure, and controlling emotions in challenging situations. Mike applies these same principles to coaching, teaching young athletes how to remain focused, manage adversity, and maintain control of their emotions regardless of the situation on the baseball field.

Following his military service, Mike began his career in the construction industry, advancing from a field installer into project management and estimating. In 2016, he joined Division 7 Construction, where he eventually became a partner and owner. Today, he oversees company operations, safety, and multiple specialty divisions. His professional experience reinforces the importance of communication, leadership, accountability, and developing individuals to reach their full potential.

Mike began coaching youth baseball at Shades Mountain Park, where he has spent the past four years working with young athletes. His coaching experience includes recreational, All-Star, and competitive baseball. His coaching philosophy centers on developing strong fundamentals, building confidence, encouraging accountability, and creating a competitive but positive environment. He emphasizes the importance of mental toughness, emotional control, and responding to adversity with confidence and composure. Mike believes that teaching young athletes how to handle both success and failure is just as important as developing their physical skills, preparing them for challenges both on and off the field.

Outside of baseball, Mike enjoys spending time with his wife, Amber, and their son, Jackson. An avid traveler, he enjoys exploring new destinations with his family, traveling extensively throughout the United States and internationally to destinations such as Japan. He values the experiences, cultures, and perspectives gained through travel and enjoys sharing those opportunities with his family. Whether traveling, spending time outdoors, or supporting his son’s activities, Mike values creating lasting memories and making the most of time spent together.
